*Restricted Veggie. Or Turnip “Fries” for Unrestricted
This is one of the most popular veggie dishes among Ideal Northwest clients. Rutabagas are like turnips, but they have a sweeter, milder flavor when baked.
- 1 large or 2 small rutabagas or turnips – enough to equal 2 cups chopped
- 1-2 tsp olive or grapeseed oil – preferably spray
- Sea-salt to taste
- Seasonings such as garlic powder, SPIKE seasoning, etc (per your preference)
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Peel rutabagas using a veggie peeler or paring knife. Slice the peeled rutabaga into fry-sized strips. Place in a single layer on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Spray lightly with oil and dust with liberal sea-salt, garlic powder, SPIKE or other seasoning. Bake 30-35 minutes, flipping fries at about 15 minute mark. Bake until the desired level of brownness/crispiness is achieved. They are better when they’re crispy.
